Shortlist for Media Innovation Awards 2010
The nominations for the Media Innovation Awards 2010 have been announced. Twenty-four entries have been shortlisted for the awards which will be presented at a gala dinner at St Mellion International Resort in Cornwall on Thursday 18 March.
The event is being run in association with the University of Plymouth and South West RDA and event sponsors include: Pyramid, South West Screen, PR Dogs, Plymouth College of Art, Northcliffe Media, and South West Design Programme.  Award sponsors are listed below.
Companies from all over the South West have been shortlisted for awards, with Plymouth and Bristol gaining strong representation in a number of categories.
Karen Stockdale of the Media Innovation Awards said, “The Media Innovation Awards have gained a reputation for showcasing only the finest work in the region and all the companies nominated have done extremely well as only work of the highest calibre has been shortlisted by the judges.”
The judges decided not to shortlist the Mobile Communications and Multi-platform Project entries as there was a clear winner in each of these categories.
The awards recognise the innovative use of media and design in the region, and members of the creative industry from Cornwall through to Dorset and Gloucestershire were invited to enter the awards.
Other sponsors are University College Falmouth, Audio Network, Fentongollan, Skillset and Foot Anstey.
Bookings are now being accepted for the gala dinner; tickets cost £40 each or you can book a table of 10 for £360. The event includes a drink on arrival, a 3 course meal, coffee and entertainment.
To book please call 01752 346530, email info@pm-p.com or register online at www.mediainnovationawards.com  where you can find out more information about the awards.

Find cleaning traumatic? Try extreme crime scene cleaning
Imagine the worst has happened. Your house has been burgled; the property you’ve been letting has been used as a drugs den; you’ve had a nasty accident at home or someone close to you has died.

You’d start by calling the emergency services of course, but who do you call once they’ve left to tidy up the mess?

You’d need a specialist cleaning service like Traumatic Cleanup. They are the only cleaning company in the south west that are fully trained by and accredited members of the National Association of Crime Scene Cleaners.

They specialize in the cleaning jobs that other cleaners can’t or won’t tackle including undiscovered death cleanup, body fluid clean up, crime scene cleaning, decontamination of bacteria, germs and viruses, gross filth and hording cleanups and insect infestation.

Traumatic Cleanup was set up by Tavistock-based cleaning expert Richard Honey after he noticed a gap in the market for a company that could cope with extreme crime scene cleaning.

Richard said: ‘It’s often a case of safety. If you don’t have the right training you’re putting yourselves and others at risk. We have the right tools, experience and the latest anti-microbial cleaning fluids to do the job properly. Ordinary cleaners might clean up the surface mess, but they’ll miss the details – the needles or the blood stains. We provide a complete, confidential and caring service to take care of the most unpleasant cleaning jobs.

“I’ve seen some horrible things but it’s a job that someone has to do and I get satisfaction from helping people through what is often a difficult and traumatic time. It’s the tough end of cleaning and it’s a side that’s subject to a lot more regulation in the USA. I’d like to see that happen over here.”

New role for Regan

St Mellion International Resort’s Regan Bailey has been given a new role in the company. She has been appointed membership and operations manager.

She joined the company in 2002 as membership & marketing assistant and since then has progressed to a managerial role working for the club as the sales & marketing manager and then business development manager. Regan is a keen golfer and is a familiar face on St Mellion’s courses as well as being a regular at the resort’s newly refurbished gym and spa facilities.

Regan says she is looking forward to taking on the exciting new challenge: “I am delighted to be taking on this new role and can’t wait to get to work with the team to continue to improve the overall membership experience here at St Mellion.

“It’s a really exciting time here at the resort. Since our £20 million refurbishment last year we’ve got so much more to offer members and guests not just in terms of golf but also our four star hotel, restaurant and top quality leisure and spa facilities. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in.”

Kick off for Plymouth’s first Twestival Global
Plans are underway for the first ever Twestival Global event to be held in Plymouth as organisers today confirmed the venue as Plymouth Argyle.
A Twestival (Twitter + Festival) is a unique global charity fundraising event organised using the micro-blogging service Twitter and other social media networks.
On March 25 hundreds of cities across the world will each hold their own Twestival events to raise money for one charity. This year that charity is Concern Worldwide.
Plymouth’s event features an evening of entertainment from up-and-coming local bands as well as a fundraising auction with items donated by local individuals and organisations. Everyone is welcome at the event, including non-Twitterers, and the evening will be broadcast online to followers around the world.
Rob Pickstone, marketing officer at Business Link and Twestival organiser said: “Plymouth Twestival is shaping up to be a really special event and we’re delighted to announce Plymouth Argyle as the venue.
“We’re really excited by how much is being achieved in such a short space of time and our thanks go out to everyone who’s offered their support so far. It really does demonstrate both the pioneering spirit of the Plymouth community and the power of social media networks to do good.”
